Roof Soft Wash
ARMA-recommended, low-pressure roof cleaning that removes algae, mold, and moss without damaging your roof.
Professional Roof Soft Washing
Roof soft washing is a specialized, low-pressure cleaning method designed to remove algae, mold, mildew, lichen, and moss from roofs without causing the damage associated with high-pressure washing.
It is the industry-standard, ARMA-recommended approach for cleaning asphalt shingles, as well as tile, slate, and metal roofs.
How Soft Washing Works
- ✓ Low Pressure: Unlike pressure washing, soft washing uses low pressure (150–400 PSI), similar to a garden hose, to apply cleaning solutions.
- ✓ Chemical Solution: A mixture of water, biodegradable surfactants, and sodium hypochlorite is used to kill the infestation at the root, rather than just cleaning the surface.
- ✓ Dwell Time: The solution is left to sit on the roof for 10–20 minutes to break down contaminants, which then rinse off easily.
- ✓ Long-Lasting Results: Soft washing prevents the regrowth of algae and moss for a longer period compared to pressure washing.
Key Benefits
No Structural Damage
It prevents shingle erosion, granule loss, and damage to flashing that can occur with high pressure.
Energy Efficiency
A clean, algae-free roof reflects more sunlight, which can lower cooling costs.
Extended Roof Life
By removing algae (Gloeocapsa magma) that feeds on limestone in shingles, it prevents premature roof aging.
ARMA-Recommended Method
Soft washing is the industry-standard approach endorsed by the Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association.
